Intensive Driver Training - 2-day course
City Training offers a two-day intensive driver training course for candidates who have completed their LGV driver training tuition and test. The vehicle they will be trained on will be either a fully laden rigid or an artic with a 45 ft trailer, fully laden.
The object of the course is to make the driver fully aware of the conditions and dangers of driving a laden vehicle and to give them driving experience before they apply for work with a transport company. This gives the driver the confidence and ability to meet work requirements and the employer the added assurance that the driver has the experience of being out on the road with a qualified and experienced tutor.
The course will incorporate city driving, motorway, single and dual carriageway driving; there will be a practical driving test at the end of the course. There will also be a theory test, which will include subjects covered on the course, driver's hours, safe loading and weights and dimensions of vehicles.
The customer will retain a copy of the test report for future reference and employment interviews.
Shunting Training
Accidents during shunting (reversing) usually happen on company premises, at low speed and could usually be avoided if the necessary steps where taken.
There is usually someone available on the premises to guide the driver and there is normally no other vehicle involved. The driver can be in an unfamiliar place and maybe at the end of a journey when they want finished in a hurry.
The course covers safety rules that must be followed during shunting operations in varying situations particularly when the drivers view to the rear is in any way restricted.
It also offers advice and information to anyone guiding drivers through this manoeuvre. We cover the drivers' responsibilities on the public highway and take them through guidance instruction, i.e. hand signals, position, personal safety and accident prevention.
The course can be held on company premises, the safety and guidance information is given first and then a practical demonstration.
An experienced LGV instructor who can observe and advise each individual on their shunting operation performance assesses the candidates.
